Suzuki Recalls 2012 GSX-R1000

Suzuki GSX-R1000

Any GSX riders out there? If you happen to purchase a new 2012 model, here is some important recall information. Suzuki has recently identified an issue with loose bolts on some 2012 models which may cause the side stand interlock switch to fail. On the GSX-R1000 models, failure of this switch will terminate the ignition circuit. As a result, the engine will stop running, which obviously will increase the risk of a crash.

Suzuki reports that it will notify owners and dealers will be replacing the side stand interlock bolts, free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin before the end of June 2012. If you own a GSX-R1000 and would like to find out more information about this recall, you may contact Suzuki at (714) 966-7040. The recall campaign number is 2A29. You can also get additional information by contacting the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline at (888) 327-4236.

We hope this helps! Keep us posted on any new developments by commenting below or by joining the conversation on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Drifting Battle

The sport of drifting is more popular then ever and there are some talented individuals who are merging cars and bikes into the mix. Nick “Apex” Brocha from team Icon Motosports and professional race car driver, Jim Guthrie, take to the track for a motorcycle vs car drift battle. Nick is riding a 2005 Kawasaki ZX-10 (modified with an extended swingarm) and Jim is driving a 1993 Mazda RX-7 (equipped with a 375hp engine). Check out the battle below:

Triumph ‘Weslake’

Triumph Weslake

Triumph Weslake

Most Triumph customs you encounter are retro throwbacks but the ‘Weslake’ captures Triumph’s sporting spirit in a contemporary way. The Weslake is based on a T509-spec Speed Triple (108 hp, aluminum frame, twin headlamps) and was built by Olivi Motori, an Italian Triumph dealer.

Weslake is a reference to the English tunning specialist, Weslake Engineering. Their Gurney-Weslake cylinder heads are well known. Their connection was established because Weslake 8-valve heads were often fitted to Triumph motors in the early days of Tritons.

The Weslake also won the “Best Naked” category in last year’s Verona Motorcycle Expo.

We though this custom was a beauty and worth sharing with all of you. Let us know what you think by posting in the comment section below.

Harley-Davidson Recall

Harley-DavidsonAny Harley drivers out there? We recently confirmed that Harley-Davidson is recalling 308,000 motorcycles due to an issue with the rear brake light and the rear brake itself. Last week, documents filed to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) by Harley-Davidson, showed that break light switches can be exposed to too much heat from the exhaust system. The heat can cause the break lights to fail, fluid leaks and the loss of rear break use.

The bikes affected are Touring, CVO Touring and Trike motorcycles from the 2009 through 2012 model years. The build dates affected are from June 6, 2009 through September 16, 2011. Harley will be contacting each owner regarding the recall and will install a rear brake light switch kit, free of charge.

The recall mainly affects the USA where there are an estimated 250,000 Harley owners. This recall is costing Harley-Davidson an estimated 6 million dollars.

Back to School

UTI Campus Locations

UTI Campus Locations

Today was the first day of school and we’re sure for every sad kid, there was a happy parent. It isn’t just kids going back to school though, many adults are back in the mix as well. In an effort to “keep it real” with our fans, we thought it would be a great idea to write about the hands-on Technology Training Program for Motorcycle Mechanics at the Universal Technical Institute. In a short period of time you can be working in the field and possibly doing what you love. Check out some of the program features:

MMI’s Core Program

  • Integrated technologies and procedures used by dealerships across the country.
  • Engine operation, troubleshooting and diagnostics.
  • How to max power and performance.
  • Fuel and electrical systems.
One you complete the core program you can select any of the following specialties as an elective:
Here is a link to the MMI Fact Sheet which answers many of the questions you may have. It takes about 48 weeks to complete the course and classes start every 6 weeks. If you love bikes and are looking for a career change, this may be a great option for you.

Escapism

We all ride for different reasons. Some of us have a family history with bikes. Others just enjoy the thrill of the open road. Regardless of the reason, all riders experience something called escapism. Escapism, as defined by Barry Munsterteiger, the director of this video, is “The state of having wandering and imaginative thoughts in order to remove one’s self from reality.” This video captures the true essence of this experience.
